Since it was Mardi Gras yesterday we decided to try out a restaurant who boasts true Cajun cuisine. Tad’s is locally owned and operated with a few locations around the Houston area. We went to their original Katy location on FM 1463 in Firethorn. It’s a very up and coming area and Tad’s fits right in among the crowd. I was craving some seafood to celebrate this festive Louisiana holiday and as we walked up I could smell the crawfish boiling and when we walked in I saw that they had decorated for the occasion which made me more excited to be there.
We were seated promptly in a nice and open dining area. After looking over a vast menu of Louisiana staple dishes I decided on shrimp and grits while my friend chose the fried catfish. We did wait quite a while for our food to come out but I chalked that up to being prepared fresh in house. I was right. We received steaming plates of fried and seasoned, wonderfully aromatic foods. The fried catfish was crisp and seasoned very well, just like I remember from back home, with a hint of lemon zest. The filets were served with scrumptious sweet potato fries that were equally sweet and salty. My shrimp and grits was a knockout dish as well. The sauce was spicy and savory and the grits balanced out the heat perfectly. If you’ve never had shrimp and grits before it’s a great southern comfort meal – simple but amazing – and Tad’s does is so very well.
After those full plates became happy ones we were utterly stuffed. Tads definitely lives up to its fame as a Cajun restaurant and I am glad we got to celebrate Fat Tuesday with them. If you want to learn more about them check out their Facebook and their website for all their locations and events!!
