Pearl River Asian Café can best be summed up in a single word: Average. This could be any Chinese restaurant anywhere in the States with average food, average prices, average service, slightly below average décor, and a fortune cookie at the end of the meal.

The restaurant does offer specials which include an entrée, steamed or fried rice, choice of soup and an eggroll. This is not unique as many Chinese restaurants offer the same type specials, however these are often only at lunchtime.

One nice feature of Pearl River is that the specials are offered at any time, though limited in the number of entrée choices. I ordered one of the specials, the Pineapple Beef, which was tasty. My wife had Lemon Chicken which was basically fried chicken with steamed rice and lemon sauce.

Would I tell you to go out of your way to visit Pearl River Asian Café? By no means. But if you are looking for an average Chinese meal near the intersection of Grant and Jones on the northwest side of Houston, Pearl River just might hit the spot.
