Los Tios Mexican Restaurant has been around since 1970. Daniel always talked about this place for as long as I can remember. It withstood the COVID period when many restaurants did not. So naturally, Father’s Day rolled around this year and this restaurant was on his mind. There are several locations but the one he is most fond of is the one at 9527 Westheimer Road in Houston, Texas.

After, doing some shopping at Memorial City Mall, we built up an appetite for an early dinner. Los Tios Mexican Restaurant in this location has been here a good while and you can tell by the sign. Although the sign looked aged, the restaurant was in better shape.

We arrived before the dinner rush, so not too many people were inside. Los Tios was quiet. A hostess greeted us and took us to a booth. All the tables were neatly set with napkins and silverware. We glanced over the menu. The waiter took our order down and drinks. We enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa. The green creamy salsa was my favorite. You know how some places give you one red and one green bowl of salsa? Los Tios have been in the business long enough to know their customers love their salsa. The waiter brought us our own red and green salsas. Which is smart because they aren’t spending time running back and forth with more of it. Good call!

We started with an appetizer, Taquitos Dorados. Delicious fried rolled-up chicken taquitos. It came with black beans and guacamole. Drizzled in Mexican crema and queso fresco. These were crispy to perfection and extremely hot. May want to let the cool a bit before biting into it.

I honestly could have had this as a meal it was that good. Sometimes the most simple meal is all you need.

Daniel enjoys coming to Los Tios for their enchiladas. I have made enchiladas in the past but it is time-consuming and honestly, it’s a lot of work to make. Which is why I ordered them because I refuse to make them 😝 I ordered the enchiladas verdes. Something about corn tortillas and green tomatillos makes my mouth water and sinus run. My plate came very hot. The melted cheese told me how hot it was.

Each enchilada was stuffed with seasoned shredded chicken. The green tomatillo sauce has a light spicy taste to it. I highly recommend it! Every one of our plates came with a dollop of sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, Mexican rice and refried beans.

Daniel and Diego got the same plate, shrimp enchiladas. In my opinion, mine was better mine LOOKED better too but that’s just me. The shrimp were seared very well and the cream sauce on top made it pretty good.

Diego said he liked it because there was a lot of shrimp. Enough shrimp in every bite. Also, the shrimp was just the right size.

All in all this year’s Father’s Day went well. Daniel found some nice shoes and he got his shrimp enchiladas from Los Tios Mexican Restaurant.
