Mixing things up a bit this time, we decided to go for Thai food at Tony Thai Restaurant located in the Bellaire area of Houston, TX. Daniel mentioned that a coworker suggested the Tony Wings. Still I wasn’t convinced or rushing over, however most of my friends are Asians and they love food and trying new places. Daniel mentioned Tony Thai Restaurant to them through a text and our friends were quick to text back that yes it’s in Bellaire and that the wings are the best. This was the nudge I needed to try to make it down on a Friday afternoon before any of the crowd hit! Friday afternoon rolls around and we were ready to hit China Town in Alief to try it. The area is very familiar and we make it before traffic starts to build and parking lots get filled.

We walk in and we are overwhelmed with colorful decor and snacks I’ve never seen before. We are seated quickly by a friendly host. I immediately make a u turn back to the snacks 😂☠️ My eyes danced all around when I read dried mango and tamarind candy. Fixated on all the snacks I ask the waitress what she has tried and likes. Kindly she suggested the pineapple biscuits. My eye was on the tamarind candy.

Daniel and Diego are looking at the menu when I return. The menu was packed and organized with pictures. As I scan the choices, the words soft crab, jump up at me. I thought oh boy, I bet Diego will order that. I don’t say anything because I want to see if Diego notices it. I was spot on he gasps with enthusiasm and says, SOFT-CRAB!! He put the menu down and made up his mind right then and there.

Daniel orders the recommended Tony’s Wings for us to share. Diego orders the garlic soft crab and Daniel orders Pad Thai with chicken. I on the other hand decide to not order anything because something told me to hold back. I wanted to see the portions first.

Tony’s wings came out peppery blazing hot. The wings were drenched in a chili type wing sauce on a bed of bean spouts and cilantro. The plate came with about 6 large wings. It was delicious to the point we were all quiet.

We ate until there was just a plate of bones.

Soon after the Pad Thai with Chicken came about the time the wing bones were sitting on the plate. We all served ourselves and there was plenty to go around. The Pad Thai with Chicken was hot and steamy. The flavor wasn’t overpowering and the chicken was tender.

The added bean sprouts were a unique combination for me. The chicken complimented it very well. As I went to get seconds, Daniel points out the chopped peanuts on the side. The added garish was the perfect crunch that made this dish the ultimate for me. I enjoyed how soft and perfectly cooked the noodles were.

While in the middle of eating the Pad Thai, Diego’s garlic soft crab came to the table and he was so very excited about trying it.

My son’s garlic soft crab did not disappoint! In fact, it was quickly ranked number one on his own personal list. So far he has had Caobao at the eatery inside H-Mart and Fat Bao on Kirby in Houston as well. He said theirs doesn’t even compare to Tony Thai Restaurant. I will trust his opinion on that one. He offered me a bite. To be polite I tried it but I didn’t want to eat anymore so he could enjoy it.

Remember I didn’t order anything right? Well, technically I only had 2 wings. I was left with wanting more. I ordered another order of Tony Wings. Did I regret it? Yes and no. No I don’t regret it because it was freaking so good! I love spicy wings in general. The sauce they use was just an indulgence paradise for me. Also, yes I regret it because by the 4th wing I was filled to the top. Honestly, I was ready for a foodie nap. Either way, I got my fill and I had a great experience with my family.

Before we left, I had to take home some of those snacks that greeted us at the door. I ended up picking the pineapple biscuits and the tamarind candy. I picked the pineapple biscuits for two reasons, one the lovely waitress said it was good and secondly, the cookies looked so cute. The boys really enjoyed them too. I look forward to having some with some cold milk. The tamarind candy didn’t disappoint at all. I love tamarind in any kind of form. I’ve had it fresh from a tree in Mexico, and I’ve had it boiled, strained, and blended into a drink. It was a nice surprise for Tony Thai Restaurant to have a large arrangement of snacks I’ve never seen before.
