We started our morning checking out of our hotel with no idea where we would sleep that night. That uncertainty is exactly what I enjoy about traveling this way. Instead of following a strict itinerary, we could explore Tokyo and decide where to go next as the day unfolded.
After grabbing coffee and breakfast from 7-Eleven, we wandered through Yanaka Ginza, trying food and exploring local shops. Diego found a traditional Japanese doll for a still-life project he hopes to include in his college art portfolio. Learning about the history and meaning behind the doll made the purchase even more special.
We also tried visiting the sumo museum, only to discover a major tournament was taking place and tickets were sold out. We couldn’t enter, but we still saw sumo wrestlers outside and even managed to get a photo with one.
By the afternoon, we were exhausted from navigating trains and walking around Tokyo, especially Diego because he was still using a crutch. But that’s part of the adventure.
I want Diego to become hooked on traveling, and I especially want my wife to experience the excitement of seeing the world for the first time. Traveling without a rigid plan isn’t for everyone, but for us, it gives us the freedom to experience each day as it comes.
