On a recommendation from a friend Daniel announced that we had to go try the shredded chicken enchiladas at Lopez Mexican Restaurant in Houston, TX. The reason why I was surprised was because I feel like we just had Mexican not too long ago. Last month we celebrated Father’s Day at Los Tíos restaurant. We headed out to the Lopez Mexican Restaurant location at 11606 Wilcrest Drive in Houston, Texas.

It was Friday late afternoon and as usual there was a lot of traffic. I was surprised to see the restaurant. It didn’t match the rest of the neighboring area. Lopez Mexican Restaurant looked brand new like a shiny penny. We were given a warm welcome as we strolled inside. The restaurant was spacious and open. There was a lot of available seating.

We gave our drink orders to our kind waitress. I was excited about my drink especially. It was a mango cocktail. When it came, it was filled to the brim. It was a gorgeous mango color. As I took a sip, it shocked my taste buds. It immediately put me in the best mood! I drank it very slowly to savor this moment.

Our entrees made their way to our table. Daniel’s shredded chicken enchiladas looked like your average Mexican plate of enchiladas served with rice, and refried beans. Daniel’s meal looked average however the taste left a powerful punch of cheese, moist tender shredded chicken with a great spicy flavor.

I ordered from the Mexican Originals menu, the Chicken Flautas. My plate included
three crispy rolled-up corn tortillas filled with shredded chicken. It had rice, refried beans, fresh guacamole, sour cream, and pickled jalapeños with a side of shredded lettuce and tomatoes.

Part of Diego’s order came to the table as he had ordered The Lopez special. It included two cheese enchiladas, a beef taco guacamole salad, a chile con queso puff, and one chile Relleno. His order was so large that it came in shifts!! Diego couldn’t eat it all himself so Daniel kindly helped him. In comparison to Daniel’s enchiladas, Diego’s cheese enchiladas had more of the flavor of the enchilada chili gravy taste to it.

I enjoyed my meal! The chicken in the flautas was fresh and cooked well. The corn tortillas were delicious, and crispy. I would’ve gladly substituted the rice and beans for an extra chicken flauta. Dipping the crispy chicken flautas in sour cream, and adding pickled jalapeños on top gave it a kick. What I liked most about my entree was that the portion was excellent. It was more than enough food.

After Diego finished his large meal he wanted something sweet. The waiter recommended their churros. It was a small dessert with two small churros and liquid cinnamon on the side for dipping. The outside of the churros had been sprinkled with sugar. Daniel and I took a tiny bite just to say we tried it. It was great and it made my son happy.

We had a nice dinner at Lopez Mexican Restaurant and we will definitely return again.
